President-elect Vladimir Putin, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Board of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS), announced new initiatives in support of natural sciences.

Specifically, RGS will support the popular science journal Around the World and the My Planet Channel. My Planet Journal, according to President Putin, has become a “conduit of RGS initiates”; Around the World Channel, in turn, is run by a “bright team of similarly minded professionals”.
Additionally, 8 grants were awarded to scientific research projects for implementation of advanced technologies in geographical studies, eco-education and awareness, and future expeditions.
President-elect Putin was elected the Chairman of the Board for the RGS ( established in 1845 by the Tsar Nicolas the First) in 2009.
